MOONLIGHT FLICKS BRINGS BIG SCREEN ENTERTAINMENT BACK TO THE OPEN AIR THIS SUMMER

Storyhouse’s hugely popular Moonlight Flicks returns to the open air this summer with more than 28 screenings planned over two months.

The Moonlight Flicks big screens will take up residence at three fantastic locations across the region from 14 July to 2 September

Catch cinematic favourites under the stars in the stunning surroundings of Chester Cathedral, Claremont Farm in Wirral and, returning for a third year, Snugbury’s Ice Cream at Park Farm near Nantwich.

Tickets go on sale on Tuesday 4 April and have been held at 2022 prices.

Film fans are spoilt for choice this summer with a mixture of family flicks, screen classics, beloved rom-coms, action adventures, anniversary screenings and some of the brightest and best of the current crop of recent releases including the multi-Oscar winning Everything Everywhere All at Once

The screenings open at Chester Cathedral on Friday 14 July when movie musical lovers can enjoy a 45th anniversary screening of Grease, while Claremont Farm hosts the Abba-tastic Mamma Mia

And Snugbury’s opens its 2023 season of Saturday evening showings on 22 July with the big screen phenomenon The Greatest Showman

Other family-friendly films being shown over the summer include The Goonies and Matilda the Musical.

Along with Everything Everywhere All at Once – which scooped seven Academy Awards last month – there is also a chance to catch the high-octane Top Gun Maverick and music biopics Elvis and I Wanna Dance With Somebody

Meanwhile the programme also features a host of classic box office hits marking special anniversaries, including Spice World the Movie and The Big Lebowski (both 25 years old), Jurassic Park (30 years old) and the charming Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck romantic comedy Roman Holiday which is 70 this year.

All the films are shown on our giant 30ft Airscreen, and refreshments will be available at each location – including the return of pizzas and the Secret Beer Garden at Chester Cathedral, serving craft beers, cocktails and soft and hot drinks.

Nicky Beaumont, Film and Digital Programme Manager at Storyhouse, said: Moonlight Flicks has become as much a part of summer as strawberries and cream, seaside holidays and of course our own open-air theatre.

“I’m really excited about the programme we have for film fans this summer; it really is something for all tastes, from family favourites to movie musicals, rom coms to action adventures, and indie hits to Oscar winners.

“We know how much every penny in your purse and pocket counts at the moment, so we have also frozen prices at 2022 levels to make sure as many film fans as possible can continue to enjoy the unique Moonlight Flicks experience.”
