Sophie curates the carefully chosen, ever-evolving Cornerhouse gin list (currently 34 to try), showcasing gins you may not get elsewhere and championing smaller-batch distilleries and those with great stories to tell.
Lind & Lime, Leith – this distillery make one thing and make it really bloody well. Arguably the best gin Sophie’s ever tasted (and she’s tried a few), it’s made with 100% green electricity, 100% organic produce and is 100% plastic free packaging.
Twisting Spirits – earthy kaffir lime leaves with zesty lemongrass for a fresh, sherbety taste
Gin Eva, and Gin Eva Green Spice, Mallorca – so chosen because of Adam and Sophie’s daughter, Eva. The first is packed with bright, orange citrus and the second, a small batch of 1000 bottles made in conjunction with Michelin-starred chef Ingo Holland using only green botanicals, is Manager Ben’s favourite.
Raspberry Manchester – Manchester will always have a special place in her heart so a few Manc gins have made their way onto the list. This one is fruity and pink but, crucially, still ginny.
Capesthorne Classic Cheshire Dry – a classic style, small-batch gin made by friends with locally-foraged ingredients
Gin Xorigeur, Menorca – A cult, holiday gin. The precise recipe is known only to the family who make it, but the base spirit is grape, not grain, so Sophie’s working on a theory that if you want to mix your drinks, this is a good place to start…
Trevethan Cornish Gin – from a family recipe hidden for 70 years, a classic gin with a whack of pink grapefruit and sweet lychee, perfect for summer months.
Gunpowder, Drumshanbo – spicey anise with a hit of gunpowder gin, and who doesn’t love a good bottle?
Dodds, London – Discernibly different & 100% organic, each bottle label has the handwritten postcode for the beehive that kindly donated their honey to the cause
Hills & Harbour, Dumfries & Galloway – with seaweed from the coast, pine needles from the forests, and hints of mango and pineapple.
Three Wrens Bison Grass, Cheshire – there’s a particular scent of summer, warm, drying grass on the air, and this locally produced gin captures that.
Ealing Gin – great bottle and great reviews
Manchester Three Rivers – made in the heart of the city and super smooth
Forged Passionfruit – from a husband and wife team in Wakefield with a thing for organic gin and big flavours
Henstone – fantastic small family-business from Oswestry
And, of course, Fever Tree
