There is a touch of Spring in the air and while we still can’t get out and enjoy our city as we’d desperately like to – we can of course still support our local restaurants, makers and bakers by ordering some delicious dining experiences this weekend, for collection or delivery.
Oak & Smoke Pizza at The Chester Fields
I’m a massive fan of The Chester Fields as you well know – and I’m massive fan of pizza too! So the fact that my mate Jarvo has created a fabulous Wood Fire Kitchen in their garden overlooking the Cheshire Plains has put a seriously big smile on my face. I have been lucky enough to sample the entire menu (you know I never do these things by halves) at a socially distanced taste test – and I can confirm, they are all totally delicious (but my favourite is The Old Goat of course!). Oak & Smoke is now open for takeaway – and we can but dare to dream about gathering safely under the stars and enjoying the Good Times again very soon … Bravo Jarvo!
9 Elephants Thai Drink & Dine
Always fabulous food! This for me is the epitome of ‘Independent Chester’. A great quality, family run restaurant serving the most delicious Thai food. Its fantastic! This weekend I recommend Cococnut milk chicken soup (its so delicious) plus Oyster Sauce-aholic with beef, Armoured squid prawns and Satay with me from the Street Food section. Plus you can get loyalty and offers with the 9 Elephants app.
The First Rule about Cheese Club …
… is that you never talk about Cheese Club! So last weekend we treated ourselves to the Valentines menu from The Black Dog and I kid you not – it was exceptional. We ordered the Chateaubirand with classic garnish and king prawn skewers, Cafe de Paris butter and Stilton sauce – plus the most delicious sides of Mac n cheese and Parmesan truffle chips. This heavenly feast was perfectly accompanied by a killer bottle of red, and followed by two gorgeous desserts – gooey chocolate fondant pudding with a tub of vanilla ice cream and white chocolate trio. But thats not all …. for the next day we were treated to Cheese Club, and this triumph you will need to discover for yourselves (so so good!). This weekend you can order the BD magnificent Surf n Turf, as well as that super popular Sunday roast with all the trimmings.
So here’s the thing … we miss those naughty nibbly sausages from the Barlounge menu big time! We’ve been enjoying their divine stickiness for years, and even though we can’t enjoy them in situ right now, it turns out we can enjoy them at home tomorrow! The sausage gods have smiled down on us at last, so all you need to do is turn up from 12noon til 4pm and collect via a COVID friendly one way system. What more could you want? And thats not all. All proceeds go to the Radio City Cash For Kids appeal. That’s my kinda Weekend Sausage Fest! 😉
The Old Dukes
Have you seen this bad boy? Cheesus thats a whopper! So this weekend, you can indulge in utter filth of the meaty variety with The Old Dukes Stack Burger Challenge – four patties, cheese, bacon, burger sauce, fries and coleslaw. Are you ready champs? Get On That!
The Blue Bell 1494
I am so pleased to see these guys joining the Chester Takeaway / Street Food Revolution! I have had quite a few fabulous meals here pre and between lockdowns – and it really is fantastic! Really tasty, great quality and with the most adorable team – this is definitely one of my favourite local independent restaurants, absolutely love it. And now they are offering their superb food for takeaway Friday to Sunday 12noon til 4pm. I’ll be seeing you guys tomorrow then!
God knows how much I absolutely adore Chef Carl Noller. He’s a proper talented chef of the Old School variety, but his food is modern and so tasty, plus he is a true champion of local produce. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – Carl’s Beef Cheek Bolognese is one of the best food experiences in Chester. I’m dreaming of enjoying this again very soon with a glorious glass of Italian red. You can also order this winning combo on takeaway right now too. Whoop!
If you’re a meat lover, a cocktail lover or simply in need of a takeaway meal made with love this weekend, then you need to pay a virtual visit to The Suburbs via their app. Meat is always a Treat from this kitchen – burgers, wings, steak platters and so much more (check out the Braai Box or the Boerwors South African specials) – there really is something fabulous for every one. As far as beer, spirits, cocktails and wine goes to – these guys have that well and truly covered too.
Burger Shed 41
Burger Shed makes me really really happy 😀. I absolutely love their weekend sharers and their chicken wings are divine! This weekend you can even order a Derby Sharer to pimp up your at-home footie experience – includes 2 burgers (beef, chicken, vegan), 1 cheeseburger fries (trust me they are super-dreamy), 1 pulled pork fires, 4 mozzarella sticks, 8 chicken wings, 2 dips and 2 red cabbage slaw for £30. WHAAAAAT?!? Amazing!
The Cheese Shop
A little birdie told me it’s been Alpine Cheese Week this week, but I really don’t need any excuse to binge on any type of cheese – especially at the weekend. But if you do fancy something a bit special, The Cheese Shop have some delicious specials on from the alps including Raclette with Alpine herbs or fine slices of truffle …. I’m on my way!
White Fox Wines
.. and to go with my beautiful truffle cheese – I’ll also be ordering a couple of bottles of something special from my good friends at White Fox Wines. I’m feeling a pudding wine coming on for this very special cheesy occasion – just for a change. I’ll most probably opt for my all-time favourite Passito di Pantelleria from Sicily. Its totally vegan and you’ll get notes of apricot, candied fruit, dried figs and honey – making it the perfect partner for my weekend cheese extravaganza!
The Pops are really delivering when in comes to their takeaway menu!
It’s full of gorgeous classic dishes such as homemade lasagne, crispy duck pancakes, an epic southern fried chicken burger, that amazing Sunday Roast carvery and so much more. And I especially can’t wait to try their new marinated kebabs – Chicken shish, Lamb kofta or Halloumi sish. All proper home cooked comfort food, so lucky for us – there’s no need to cook. They deliver daily and offer a collection service if you prefer.
These guys really do have it all going on! From their fabulous locally produced weekend brunch bag to their incredible freshly baked sour dough and those oh-so-naughty cakes! But this weekend, I’ll be going for the Red Velvet Hot Chocolate. There really are no words …
