I absolutely love The Hollies Farm Shop – but it is so much more than just an award-winning farm shop. Whenever you arrive – no matter what time of day – it looks fabulous. Fully stocked shelves with beautiful produce – almost too much to choose from.
So when Ed asked me to stay over in their Forest Lodges for a couple of nights to write a review – I jumped at the chance. Like everyone else, Phil and I haven’t been anywhere apart from home for months – so this was the perfect excuse to pack a bag and look forward to a change of scenery. And what a change of scenery it was!
Just 20 minutes from home which could just as easily have been two hours – The Hollies Forest Lodges are a very welcome retreat in the stunning Cheshire countryside. A home away from home, everything you need is waiting for you, and so much more than that.
You arrive at The Hollies Forest Lodge Retreat which sits in it’s very own little rural oasis far from the madding crowds – and almost immediately your shoulders drop as you breathe in the pine forest and the great outdoors. Your Cheshire Staycation starts right here.
You’ll find everything you need to make your log burner fire waiting for you on your doorstep (available to preorder), and you’ll find a Sanitised sticker sealed onto your front door, giving you the guarantee of a super-deep-covid-clean. Whatever you think your dream woodland cabin to be – I promise you this will be so much better! Plush, cosy, luxurious and beyond stylish – and you can’t hear a thing apart from the birds chatting and the breeze through the trees.
Open the door onto your very own secluded terrace where you’ll find your hot tub (pre-set to 40 degrees of course), table and chairs and a proper grown-up, temperature-controlled BBQ (which is surprisingly easy to use by the way, full instructions provided). So now it was a trip to The Hollies Farm Shop just a couple of minutes’ walk away.
I could spend hours talking about all of the wonderful food and drink available here. I’m always taken aback at The Hollies – about the incredible produce, the fully stocked shelves, the beautiful presentation of every single item – but most of all it’s the staff. Each and every one of them cares passionately about The Hollies, and they are all delightful. So we bought cold meats, cheeses, wine, dips, quiche, craft beers – and a BBQ pack including Minty Spring lamb riblets, Pork & apple burgers and Black garlic chicken.
It was time to light the BBQ (Phil really is the BBQ King in our house!) and we both loved learning how to use the King of BBQ’s – Buffalo Ceramic Kamado Grill – this is a seriously good piece of kit. All of the BBQ items were totally delicious – but the Black garlic chicken was off the chart!
After dinner, we poured ourselves another glass of red and slipped into something more comfortable (our swimsuits) and then into the hot tub! What a dreamy evening we had, sipping wine and dining under the stars in our secret, secluded hideaway at The Hollies.
And that’s not all. The beds are super-comfy, the rain shower is epic and the towel rails are set to exactly the right temperature.
Two nights away felt like a week’s retreat after a very challenging year. An escape to The Hollies is a truly magical Good Life style experience, and one that we cannot recommend highly enough.
We gave it five stars, and we can’t wait to return. Looks like everything we need right now is on our doorstep, and now is the perfect time to rediscover the county that we all love so much.
