OK. So here’s the thing. We’re in another National Lockdown. Whereas it’s no surprise, it’s still heartbreaking for all of our wonderful hospitality and independent businesses who have now been in turmoil for nearly a year. But as is always the case, we can all help by Keeping It 100% Local for all of our lockdown needs. From groceries and interiors to train sets and the most beautiful flowers – plus those all-important ‘apartment pants’ – absolutely everything we need is available locally.
So check out our guide in support of our wonderful local businesses, and get clicking and collecting to help out – plus you’ll end up with superb quality and great value items too. It’s a win win for everyone!
Bridge Street, Chester
Its no secret that I absolutely LOVE Chester Boutique. Dawn and her merry ladies are great fun, plus they are super-friendly and super-helpful too. I will miss them throughout lockdown, but I can still feed my Chester Boutique habit by browsing and ordering online, and either having it delivered or popping in to collect – socially distanced of course! This way I can top-up on much needed lounge wear, and have a dose of Dawn at the same time. Marvellous!
Weasel and The Bug
Watergate Street, Chester
Weasel and The Bug is a very special place. A gorgeous toy shop of the old-school variety, with proper, hand crafted toys for a more discerning little person! Katie is a toy expert – and being a working mum she is all-too aware of how tricky it is to keep them entertained during this difficult time. So let’s keep the magic of Weasel and The Bug alive during lockdown by ordering some real toys online – and popping in to collect.
Chester Model Centre
Bridge Street Row, Chester
A little birdie has told me that Hornby have just released their much-anticipated 2021 model railway range – and lockdown seems the perfect excuse to release your inner train driver! Chester Model Centre have got their hands on the full range, and are now taking pre-orders (plus they’re giving 10% discount if you’re quick!).
Just Footprints Chester
The Forum, outside Chester Market
The original Zero Waste local shop.
Bravo to this lovely lot! They have been trading sustainably for a long time, and their ethos is simple. If we all just bought one of their products instead of a plastic supermarket version, then it will make a big difference. They say a zero waste lifestyle isn’t one big change, it’s more a series of small changes over time. If you are willing to join me on my own journey to a zero waste lifestyle, then take a look at their on line shop and let’s start making these very important changes together. From spices to nuts, from coffee to chocolate and so much more – these guys have it all!
The Great Big Chester Fresh Egg campaign
Christleton Orchard Range
Manor Farm, White Lane,
Did you know we have our very own Egg Lady right here in Chester? (well, just outside actually at Orchard Farm in Christleton). Sarah is potty about really good quality, fresh eggs and in ‘normal times’ she delivers the best eggs to our best restaurants (Carl Noller’s blackpudding and egg starter at The Yard Chester shows them off beautifully). The yolks are the yellow-ist you’ve ever seen (if thats even a word?) and they taste sublime. This is deluxe free range egg farming at its very best. Once you’ve tasted Sarah’s eggs, you’ll never go back to the supermarket. True story! You can collect Sarah’s delicious eggs from 8am til 6pm.
The Cheese Shop
Northgate Street, Chester
This wonderful independent cheese emporium has been with us for years, and will be for many more to come! They source and sell the best quality cheese from local producers and artisans a little further afield – and what would lockdown be without cheese and chutney anyway? You can order online for delivery or collection. Thank god for cheese!
Repurposed Urban Chic
Check this out! Totally new to me but I love it! So – Repurposed Urban Chic is a family run business which started out as a hobby (all the best creative businesses do!). This super-creative pair make fabulously funky bespoke pieces of industrial-style furniture and home ware, at an affordable price. I absolutely love the sharing boards – and the filing cabinet is a must for any well-designed and eclectic home office space.
The Interiors Shop
Now is the perfect time to give your home a little bit of love. If you’re anything like me, spending so much time at home has reignited my interior design flame, and I don’t want to go online shopping to national companies, when I can shop-local and support a passionate and much loved local business. The Interiors Shop have made their online shopping experience incredibly easy (and a very nice experience too). If you’re wanting to release your inner interior god or goddess during lockdown number three, then head straight to this local design emporium. And their online garden furniture and accessories section has given me all sorts of alfresco inspiration. Bring on the Spring!
