Chester is a-changing! Our high street is recovering in all sorts of wonderful ways, but its not just the city centre having fabulous new biz openings to shout about! As ever, WLGT has its finger well and truly on the pulse with all of the venue launches, pop-ups and happenings in the city centre and beyond …
The Forge Restaurant, Chester
I was lucky enough to be invited to The Forge Restaurant Chester by owner and TV Chef Mike Robinson pre-opening, for a preview lunch date and interview. If you love food, then my interview with Mike is simply fascinating – what a journey and what an incredible story! This is a true gentleman of the hospitality sector – and his restaurant is a must-visit for locals and visitors alike.
The Emporium Deli
This looks incredible! A brand-new deli and restaurant located in Westminster Park, with the most stunning daytime menu (served Tuesday to Saturday 8.30am til 3pm, Sundays from 10am) plus Friday & Saturday evenings from 6pm. Both menus sound absolutely delicious; Choose from a selection of brunch dishes including Brown butter waffles (I’ve got my eye on the Crispy confit chicken, fried duck egg, hollandaise, mustard maple syrup), Baked eggs (the Sautéed mushrooms with spinach and truffle oil sounds heavenly) plus Granola bowls, Breakfast plates, Deli boards, bowls and Melted cheese dishes which all sound epic. The Friday and Saturday evening dinner menu looks jaw dropping too, with separate Nibbles, Vegetables, Seafood, Meat, Cheese and Sweet sections (how about Crab soufflé with twice baked Thermidor sauce, Wirral watercress, pickled samphire followed by Oaked picanha with crispy potato, burnt shallot, chimichurri, herb butter, oxtail jus ?).
This is definitely something completely different for Chester – brought to you by Kate, Rob and the team from The Old Grocery in Hawarden which is recommended by Michelin no less. Cannot wait to try!
I didn’t know James Bickerton before – but I’m so pleased that I know him now. James has just opened a really beautiful bar on Watergate Street, which fits in perfectly with all of the other superb quality venues already in situ. They launch their food menus this weekend including pastries and brunchy dishes from mid morning to four different platters of locally produced loveliness for the rest of the day. Also a great beer & wine selection and a small but perfectly presented cocktail list – plus alfresco tables on the hippest independent street in town.
This is something a bit different! Creator of super-cool brand Double Visión is bringing his concept to Chester for a week-long pop-up in the Grosvenor Shopping Centre from 17th June.
Matt says ‘Double Visión was born from the realisation that headwater has become a symbol of status rather than an expression of self. The concept of the brand is to create statement pieces that are unique, lusted after, turn heads and produce emotion’.
WLGT will be supporting his pop-up with a short, sharp marketing campaign – and will be covering his time here in Chester with social activity and introductions.
Dough & Co
Opening this Saturday – Dough & Co will be serving pizza cones, milkshakes, ice cream, hot dogs and so much more. Very instagrammable and super-cute branding – these guys are another very welcome independent business – and I anticipate a queue all weekend!
Chester Market can do no wrong, and another excellent street food vendor opened recently to rave reviews. Guroma are serving the most delicious Bangladeshi Street Food – authentically cooked halal food, inclusive of vegan and vegetarian dishes.
Local entrepreneur Mike Hannigan launches his brilliantly named cafe and bistro Somewhere Else on Garden Lane. The branding and interior design is first-class courtesy of local experts ‘We Are Ambitious’ – the coffee is of local Jaunty Goat fame and the vibe is bohemian-cool. Opening this weekend – its gonna be a sure winner!
WLGT will also be covering the following launches:
- Artezzan Restaurant & Bar
- Izakaya Lounge
- Carbonara Roman Restaurent
- Bonobo Canteen
