The Freshest Mediterranean food and brand new 'Menu of the Day' - life's a PicNic!
We are delighted to welcome another fabulous independent Chester restaurant and bar into the WLGT family.
I have been super-excited to work with see guys since last year – but with the stop-start of lockdown, we could never quite get it together. The reopening of hospitality however seems to now be permanent (fingers crossed!), so I am beyond delighted to finally be able to write this piece about this great local venue, and welcome them as a much-valued partner venue to WLGT.
As you know by now, we only work with the best quality businesses – and mainly those independents who we can really get to know and support whole-heartedly, without having to navigate the complexities of a head office system. PicNic is the perfect restaurant and bar therefore, where we can pop in regularly and find out what they’re up to as we love to bring you all the foodie news before anyone else!
PicNic has evolved from a much-loved bistro of late into a light and airy, super-sophisticated restaurant and bar. Matt, Justin and Chef Danny are (of course) passionate about sourcing the best local produce – using seasonal ingredients in simple, elegant dishes.
The reopening menu sounds divine, which I can’t wait to sample very soon on our next Dining Review (watch this space for that … ). Starters include Peach caprese, Calamari and Torched Mackerel with fennel roulade and chorizo emulsion – and the Mains include some real surprises. I will definitely be going for the Roasted sumac strawberry salad with avocado, feta, spinach and flaked almonds (which sounds like the perfect Summer dish to me), and the Lamb burger with feta, harissa ketchup, bruschetta tomatoes in a focaccia bun is definitely one to try.
The menu at PicNic is small and straight to the point. They keep the number of dishes lower so they can over-deliver on flavour and quality, and that will do very nicely for me. What is really exciting is the new Menu of the Day – a set course menu that changes daily and is really good value, available all day and night Wednesday & Thursday plus Fridays until 6:30 and Saturday lunch 12-3:30. Here they are taking inspiration from one of the best traditions from the Mediterranean and changing the dishes day-by-day, keeping it exciting and fresh.
These guys are also great bartenders, so you can also expect a small but perfectly formed cocktail list and some great quality wines – many by the glass. They also have a stellar line up of acoustic acts every Friday – and watch their socials for a couple of Saturday gigs every month too.
I will be bringing you all of PicNic’s Food Love Stories each week – and especially lots of video clips and menu picks from that very exciting and ever-changing menu of the day.
