Celebrating diversity & the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender + community!
The Chester Pride charity has been active since 2013, and since then have hosted seven Pride events within the city.
Their aim is to celebrate diversity and the LGBT+ community, with over 100 volunteers working tirelessly to expand their outreach and engagement, providing services and support to the community all year round through advocacy, campaigning on LGBT+ issues and conducting awareness-raising and educational activities.
Over the past nine years, the event has grown in attendance of around 2,000, to 3,000 people in the parade alone in 2019, and around 15,000 at the main event. People come from far and wide to enjoy the celebrations, and it’s a hugely popular, local event that is firmly imprinted upon the Chester & Cheshire annual calendar.
The Chester Pride main event sees a host of incredible acts taking to the stage for live music and performances throughout the day including the parade, many stands and stalls, bars, street food and so much more for you to enjoy and engage with.
The event also stands out for its community focus, with specific areas for older people, families, young people, and high levels of accessibility including BSL interpretation, autistic friendly quiet areas, and accessibility viewing platforms and equipment. They even have an alcohol-free zone.
As well as Chester Pride, the charity also runs the Just Ask LGBT+ helpline, have started the Proud at Work network for local businesses, sits on local advisory boards, and run several well being, mental health, and awareness-raising projects. Warren and his amazing team are a huge asset to the community, and WLGT is delighted to be supporting them in 2021 and beyond…
