Brand new to Chester! Hold onto your hats, this one is going to change your weekends forever!
Pepper Street is changing. One particular empty unit is just about to burst into life in a way it has never done before. If ever (like me) you have fancied a full-on Pan Asian experience, you’ve had to travel to Liverpool, Manchester or even all the way to London. There are some wonderful venues of this ilk in every major city in the UK, but now you don’t need to go anywhere. Izakaya Chester opens very soon – and it sounds totally awesome.
I am a massive fan of Asian food. Weekend visits to that super-famous Japanese restaurant in London feel like a lifetime ago now – and I really don’t want to be anywhere else as we come out of lockdown, than in my wonderful home city of Chester. And now something new is coming which puts the cherry firmly on top of our local, culinary cake.
Izakaya Lounge will be serving fabulous food and drink. I know this because I know the people involved. Passionate, experienced and absolute perfectionists – they know exactly how to create a superb quality experience with a grown-up vibe (children are welcome but you won’t find a kids menu here). Resident DJ’s will provide the perfect accompaniment to brunch, lunch or dinner served by an up-beat team to well-spaced, individual booths. The layout has been created with covid safety in mind and with plenty of space both upstairs in the lounge and downstairs in the restaurant.
The menu sounds divine. I love the selection of small plates to start for sharing, nibbling or grazing – and I’ll definitely be ordering duck spring rolls with plum sake and Hoisin dipping sauce, Crispy Wagyu steak wontons with chilli and ginger dipping sauce and Japanese black pepper squid with spring onion and Yuzu mayo. There’s plenty of Sushi on offer too, and the most delicious sounding Gyoza selection. ‘Big plates’ also sound fantastic with my all-time favourite Katsu curry, and a very decadent Lobster soda noodles dish. There’s a separate grill section plus sides and desserts.
And then there are the cocktails, which are right up my street too. Cherry blossom martini (white Rum, 3 year old rum, lime Juice, strawberry puree, cherry blossom syrup) and Hibiscus and Rose Margarita (tequila, hibiscus and rose syrup, honey, lime juice, pink Himilayan sea salt) have seriously caught my attention – and there are plenty more to tempt you as we look forward to our wonderful weekends out once more.
I am really excited about the launch of Izakaya Lounge. We already have such a fantastic selection of amazing bars and restaurants in the city, and this is going to fit in just perfectly. Follow their socials and check out the website for opening info.
