A beautiful independent venue in a stunning Chester location.
This has always been a very special place. Being independently owned for as long as I can remember, The Ship has always sailed over in Handbridge, overlooking the River Dee and Edgar’s Field – the perfect place for the perfect pub. And now you can enjoy those fabulous views with their stunning new bi-folding windows on the first floor. I love the way that beautiful part of Chester has been brought right into the venue complete with a gentle breeze from the river, it’s lovely!
The Ship Inn is like a Tardis, so much space spread over three floors and all of them beautifully presented, warm and welcoming. The food is honest, home-cooked and locally sourced. They serve a proper breakfast menu including all the favourites, plus the main menu with the best pub classics, a gourmet burger menu (it’s 2 4 1 burgers every Thursday from 5.30pm), and superb Sunday, dessert, vegan and children’s menus too.
This is one seriously good dining pub, and the upstairs dining room looks just as good as the food served from its kitchen. This space is light, airy and elegantly themed with a nautical vibe – and the fully-folding windows make it even more special with those beautiful river views.
The beer list is varied and also great quality, plus it has enough gin in their gin bar to … well, sink a ship (!) and the wine list is also great quality and great value too.
At the top of the venue is a very special private dining room. The Captains Table up in the crow’s nest of The Ship is a stunning room steeped in history, so if you have a special occasion coming up or just fancy a great dining experience with your nearest and dearest, then ask the team for details.
We are so pleased to be working with Lance and his fabulous team at The Ship – we’ll be bringing you all of their news and food stories, so watch this space.
Mini Review – Sunday Lunch
We absolutely loved Sunday Lunch at The Ship Inn, Handbridge recently. The chicken wings with blue cheese dip were amazing (I bloody love chicken wings!) and Phil’s garlic mushrooms with Stilton were delicious. We both had the beef which was superb quality, and can I just say that cauliflower cheese was the best I can remember having!
The desserts were fab too. Phil had the chocolate torte which he said was really light and airy (I don’t know as he wouldn’t share any!), and my rhubarb and custard tart was fantastic. It was packed with fruit and the topping was super-crunchy.
This was a really good quality dining experience and thank you to Sam and the team for taking such good care of us – cannot wait to come back.
