The story of founder William Roberts stumbling on an abandoned gold mine in the mountains of Snowdonia is certainly enchanting. He planned on opening Clogau St David’s as a tourist attraction where visitors could pan for gold, but the idea was opposed due to its location within the Snowdonia National Park. So instead, he decided to gamble on the idea that there would be some undiscovered gold still buried within the mine. To make the best use of this precious gold, William used it exclusively to create jewellery of the very highest quality, beauty and originality, with Wales as his main design inspiration.

Every piece of Clogau jewellery contains rare Welsh gold as used by members of the British Royal Family for over 100 years. Welsh gold is famous for being selected to create generations of Royal wedding rings including those of King Charles III and Camilla, Queen Consort and Queen Elizabeth II.

Today, Clogau has 15 boutique and outlet stores, including a stunning shop right here in the heart of Chester on Eastgate Street. Every piece in every collection contains the rarest Welsh gold. It is now William’s son Ben who has taken the reigns and helped grow the Clogau brand beyond the Welsh border and into Chester, Cheshire and Shrewsbury.

With a shared geography and passion for Wales, Forager’s and Clogau come together each year to craft a premium, limited-release gin. This year’s Reserve Gin 2022 blend boasts extra flavour courtesy of celebrated Brit artist Thomas Wolski, whose signature illustration style elevates the exclusive presentation box with the kind of rich, detail-packed drawing that has art collectors a-buzz in auction houses such as Christie’s. Diving inside, Forager’s unique handcrafted gin uses pure North Wales spring water and has been blended in a special red wine cask from the world-renowned Chateau Margaux, resulting in a beautiful pale amber hue. Only 390 bottles will ever be made.
