Edgar House’s Latest Incarnation as a Stylish Holiday Home
Edgar House has undergone a major transformation to become a stylishly elegant holiday home, sleeping up to 16 guests.
This magnificent Regency residence, overlooking the weir on the River Dee, offers a fabulous bolthole in our lovely city. Families will love that the house enjoys its own privacy, and yet is so centrally located – not to mention the breath-taking panoramic views, which surely must be among Chester’s finest.
The locally based owner has worked with a professional interior designer to create a home with classical and contemporary styling, which in some places is even a little bit quirky; check out the bar area! It’s the ideal gathering place for groups of close friends and family.
Edgar House enjoys its own walled garden and outdoor terrace, which travel writer Alistair Sawday once described as ‘Chester’s equivalent to the Royal Box’. From this vantage point high above the river, watching the world go by will be an enjoyable pastime. The terrace has outdoor dining amenities, including comfortable seating and blankets to snuggle into on cooler days and evenings.
Seven generously sized bedrooms are individually styled, with décor themes such as ‘Horse’, after the city’s legendary racecourse; ‘Zoo’, after the one and only Chester Zoo, one of the best in the world; ‘Copper Suite’, with its glorious deep copper bathtub and its own separate living area; and ‘Blue’—all inspired by the nature and cultural heritage of our local region. Four of these bedrooms also have the privilege of having a river terrace or balcony.
The light-filled, spacious interiors are thoughtfully designed for practicality as well as their good looks and include a sumptuous living room with shuttered windows overlooking the river, an adjoining dining room with modern décor sparkling beneath its crystal chandelier; a well-equipped and convivial open-plan kitchen, which can switch effortlessly from preparing home-cooked ‘kitchen table’ suppers with a Mediterranean influence, to more elaborate menus, created by a personal, ‘in-house’ Chef, recommended by Edgar’s House Manager to suit your needs.
The local wine merchant or cheese merchant can also be booked for an ‘in-house’ wine and/ or cheese tasting, and wines can be pre-ordered to ensure that the cellar is well-stocked. These optional extras can be arranged courtesy of the concierge team.
Families will love the media/cinema room with its BT/Sky Sports and internet connection, which features a large, wall mounted screen and surround sound; the separate games room offers air hockey, table football, darts and wi-fi jukebox.
A collaboration with a Cheshire-based party organiser, can create magical, themed sleepover parties for younger guests (aged 3 – 12 years) with individual teepees adorned with twinkly lights, lanterns, organic balloons, with little individual breakfast trays.
It’s clear that this next chapter for Edgar House will bring a home-from-home experience and fun for travellers of all ages, and it will also continue to boost Chester’s tourism profile.
This is just one of a small collection of beautiful holiday homes called Daisy Joy Escapes, created by the same owner here in Chester, on Anglesey and in Eskdale in The Lake District.
