North Light Chester is a very welcome addition to the city’s flourishing food & drink sector
Located in the Northgate Development and overlooking Exchange Square, this is a place you can spend an entire evening without knowing or caring what time it is!
Delivered by the New World Trading Company team, North Light is, however, every inch a local and independent brand created exclusively for the people of Chester, and WOW, are we lucky to have it!
Oozing with quality, North Light is sophisticated, grown-up and understated. There’s nothing flash or OTT about this gorgeous venue. The team is super friendly and full of smiles, and the welcome is open and authentic – they really do want you to visit!
The day starts with superb coffee, breakfast and brunch with pastries from local artisan specialists Bear Bakery. North Light is the perfect lunch spot with a super flexible menu full of small plates, light bites and salads, and there is even a special menu for the little ones – and their commitment to local suppliers continues with a brand new collaboration with Cake Chester. There is plenty of space too, so, great for working lunches, meetings and mates dates.
Afternoons turn to early doors and it’s definitely time for cocktails. They have a special selection to sip in the glow of daylight, so we did, and we loved them! Our favourite is Watermelon Dreams; St-Germain Elderflower, watermelon, rose vermouth, Beefeater gin, elderflower tonic. Then there is the After Lights selection to enjoy as the day grows dark, and I can honestly say this was one of the best Espresso Martinis I have ever tasted. The team has also sourced some really great local beers from award-winning breweries and is constantly on the lookout for more great quality tipples from locally acclaimed producers and distillers.
Similarly, the food suppliers have been selected with as much care and attention, and we can confirm that the Sunday Roast is worth a very special mention all on its own. You can choose from beef, chicken, lamb, pork belly or celeriac, mushroom & pearl barley Wellington. All roasts are served with maple glazed carrots, minted greens with almonds, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and gravy – and there are even more delicious sides on offer too.
North Light is a local gallery where you can enjoy, browse and purchase the art on display. The walls are full of fabulous art from local artists including Jack Few, Adrian Shaw, Matt Tibbott, Lucy Elizabeth Jones, Suzi Kennett Brown and Ali Kippax.
We absolutely love North Light. It really is the local venue that has it all. It is very dog friendly throughout (they even stock gourmet treats from local dog shop Digby & Champ in New Chester Market), and there are plenty of outside seats overlooking Exchange Square.
