A great local, independent pub serving superb ales and proper pub grub using the best local produce.
The Brewery Tap has been with us for so many years – but walking in recently for the first time for too long, felt like a whole new experience!
First of all – it has a real sense of arrival. Up some steps onto a very olde world balcony just a short walk from the city centre, it genuinely feels like you’re stepping back in time to a bygone era, which I love! It’s totally different from anywhere else in the city, and I have a particular fondness for the good old-fashioned public house, especially when it’s served up in such a beautiful and historic building like this.
A stunning Medieval hall awaits you at the top of those stairs, but it still manages to feel quite cosy at the same time, with booths and big wooden tables making it feel every inch a proper old pub with large windows and plenty of natural light.
The Brewery Tap is owned and operated by local brewery Spitting Feathers – so the credibility lives up to the proper-pub-vibe at every level. This is a genuine, bonafide Real Ale Pub, and there are many more award-winning beers on tap with an ever-changing selection of session ales for the most discerning of enthusiasts and conoisseurs.
Also a locally-loved dining pub, The Brewery Tap can boast genuine local food provenance over and above most other venues, as all of it’s pork (including the best Sunday Roast for miles around) comes from that same Spitting Feathers farm just a stones throw away in Waverton. A true farm-to-fork story, you’ll find delicious pub dishes such as Pork and apple sausages with mash and onion gravy, plus Homemade pigs jowl black pudding with toast and fried egg – with the star ingredient coming from their very own animals, it doesn’t get much more local than that.
The staff here are also a delight. An energetic team of passionate food and drink lovers, led by Real Ale lover Will – ready and waiting to give you a Great British Pub Experience seven days a week. And if you’re new to the real ale world, let yourself in gently with a beer flight or two suggested by his super-knowledgeable, ale-loving team.
A great local, independent pub serving superb ales and proper pub grub using the best local produce, all served by a lovely team – this is definitely my favourite kinda food and drink experience.
And did I mention the epic craft gin selection … ? That too!
