THE OAKFIELD AT CHESTER ZOO

In 1930, a beautiful manor house and small parcel of land came up for sale. George Mottershead had a vision of creating a zoo without bars, a haven for exotic animals to be cared for.  He moved his family to Oakfield House and they started to build their zoo.  A real family affair, ‘The Oakfield’ became the family home, a tea room, an aquarium and is now a contemporary British pub that celebrates the rich heritage of Chester Zoo.

Today The Oakfield has been lovingly restored creating a relaxed space that will be the perfect setting to enjoy the best food and drink that can be offered.  Around the pub you’ll see family photographs and early zoo memories.

Executive Head Chef, Ben Finchett has created a menu that will deliver something unexpected. Dishes are created using local, ethical, delicious ingredients. There are different menus offered throughout the week. Afternoon tea is available as well.

The beautiful bar stands proudly at the centre of The Oakfield offering some of the best wines, beers and spirits that can be found.

The venue is open late nights on a Friday till 11pm (check the website first though to ensure there is no private hire on the Friday evening you would like to go)

There are several unique event spaces in within Oakfield House available for hire; also The Oakfield offers private dining for conferences, breakfast meetings, informal evening events as well as wedding receptions.
