If C*******g did bars … then they’d have created Old Dukes!
But as it turns out, it was Molson Coors who helped out with this one!
So this is a brand new bar which launched just before lockdown number two – and now we have to wait four long weeks before we can go back to enjoy it again – what a tease!
Located in the very heart of the city on Bell Tower Walk just off St Werburgh Street, this is one seriously cool new venue with something for everyone. The second sports bar to have arrived in the city, Old Dukes spans two floors with a bar on each floor and plenty of space (covid secure from the get-go).
Fancy a game of shuffle board? I’ll challenge you from 3rd December as there are two proper, full size shuffle boards on the ground floor along with plenty of massive TV’s to watch as much NFL, soccer and rugby (etc) as you can possibly take (check out the gallery below 👇).
If you have a geeky date (and lets face it, they’re the best kind) then you can play scrabble downstairs or chess upstairs and no, thats not a metaphor! This is a place where you can play games with your household or support bubble, and you can also shoot some pool on one of the two brand spanking new pool tables upstairs.
So now we know what we can do at Old Dukes, here’s what you can eat and drink. This is one of my all-time favourite menus, and they’re serving their ‘American Flavours’ takeout-style throughout lockdown. If you love burgers, dogs, wings, steaks and super-sides then you’re in luck. Our first lockdown (two) takeaway was from Old Dukes and to say it was epic is an understatement. We had the black and blue burger, dirty fries (my god they were filthy) and BBQ wings. I really wanted to order the mushroom & truffle burger but sensing I wouldn’t be able to finish it along with my half kilo of chicken wings, I decided to delay that particular pleasure until next week.
They have a really good beer selection with plenty to order along with your takeaway including Daura, Pistol Head and Estrella – and then there are the Whistle-Whetters (pre-mixed and ready-to-go) cocktails. Oh hello! I have my eye on Red Sox Soda (citrus vodka, raspberry liqueur, raspberry acid, cream soda) and Lazy Old Fashioned (Buffalo Trace, angostura bitters, orange bitters, gomme) but there are plenty more to choose from.
So to summarise, if you’re looking for a great new bar with loads of games and tellies plus awesome American style food and drink – and the usual fabulous team which you always find in Kingdoms venues, then I’ll see you at The Old Dukes in December.
And yes, it really is that good.
